How much does a family trip to Fiji cost?

A family of four pays A$5,834 to A$7,428 for a week in Fiji from Sydney in late May, before meals (as of October 2026, sources: Qantas Holidays, Outrigger). The basket is two adults and children aged 4 and 12, one room, Saturday 29 May to Saturday 5 June 2027.

Are kids clubs and nannies free in Fiji?

The kids club is free at Outrigger Fiji, Plantation Island and Castaway Island. Outrigger's club takes children from 3, and its meimei nanny costs FJD 160 (about A$102) for an 8-hour day. Qantas Holidays lists the kids club as a surcharge, so ask before you book. If your youngest is under 3, budget a nanny day or two.

How much are Fiji airport transfers and island boats?

Outrigger's private car from Nadi airport costs FJ$258 each way for up to four, about A$329 return, plus a fuel surcharge. For Plantation Island, the Malolo Cat costs FJD 121 an adult one way at fares published to 31 March 2027, with the airport coach included. Kids aged 0 to 11 ride free with a parent, except on the ML0800 and ML1545 sailings.

With a child under 12, avoid those two sailings and ask for the coach when you book.

How much is food at a Fiji resort?

Half board for two adults at Outrigger Fiji costs FJD 1,904, about A$1,214, for the week before tax (as of October 2026, source: Outrigger). Up to two children 12 and under eat free on outrigger.com bookings. Outrigger also puts everyone in a room on the same meal plan, and it sells half board, not an all inclusive resort package, so lunch and drinks are extra.

What moves the cost most: the school holiday week

The first week of the July school holidays takes the Outrigger package from A$5,834 to A$11,770, A$5,936 more (as of October 2026, sources: Qantas Holidays, Outrigger). Booked yourself, the flight drives it: four nonstop Virgin Australia seats nearly double, while the Outrigger room rises 44%.

If school lets you go in late May or early June, book then. If July is your only week, take the one-stop flights via Brisbane, which cut about A$2,580 off four seats.

Is a Fiji package cheaper than booking yourself?

Yes: the Qantas Holidays package at Outrigger costs A$1,594 less than booking yourself, which costs A$7,428 plus a 3% card fee (as of October 2026, sources: Qantas Holidays, Outrigger). With breakfast, the package week comes to about A$6,660 for four. Booked direct with the adults' breakfast and its 17.5% in taxes, Outrigger comes to about A$8,020 if the kids still eat free.

Outrigger's rule that everyone in a room takes the same meal plan may add more, so the package leads by more than A$1,300. At Plantation Island the package saves only about A$241, because the direct Stay 5 Pay 4 rate brings the week booked yourself to about A$6,730. Jetstar Holidays had no package for these dates, and Flight Centre had no seven-night deal.

If you're a Sydney family with a 12-year-old, book the Outrigger package. If you want Plantation Island, book the package unless the FJ$200 food credit (about A$127) matters more to you than the A$241 gap.

Flying in late May or early June instead of July saves A$5,936 on the Outrigger package (as of October 2026, source: Qantas Holidays).

If a school event could still move your dates, keep Outrigger's flexible rate, because the prepaid one is non-refundable.

Getting there and getting in

Sydney to Nadi is a 4h 5m nonstop, and four return seats cost A$3,283 in late May (as of October 2026, source: Virgin Australia).

How much are flights to Fiji?

One adult return from Sydney came to about A$821 in late May and about A$1,630 in July. Economy Lite has no checked bag; Choice added one for A$25 a seat on our outbound.

If your kids can sit through a connection, book the one-stop via Brisbane in July. It cut four seats to about A$3,950, though the trip out runs up to 10h 40m and home is 13 hours overnight. In late May, take the nonstop and add Choice if you check a bag.

Do you need a visa for Fiji?

None of the six passports in the table needs a visa, and every traveller needs proof of onward or return travel.

When to go: Fiji's dry season and the school calendars

Go between May and October, Fiji's dry season, in a week outside the big school holidays, because peak season coincides with them (as of October 2026, source: Tourism Fiji). Cyclones run November to April, with two to three likely in Fiji's waters in 2026 to 2027, says the Fiji Meteorological Service.

Whether your week is peak-priced depends on whose school calendar you are on.

If you're on the New South Wales, Victoria or Queensland calendar, book the late May week we priced, which is term time for you. In London or Singapore, that week is already a school holiday.

Is Fiji worth it for a family?

Yes, for a late May week with kids aged 3 to 12: A$5,834 buys flights, a room for four and the airport car (as of October 2026, source: Qantas Holidays). It isn't if July is your only option and the budget stops short of A$11,770; our best family destinations in Australia keep the flight short.

If the July packages sell out, price Outrigger on its own site first, because Kids Eat Free is outrigger.com only. Then check Expedia for the Coral Coast and book Expedia only if it is cheaper after meals.
