Cheap February Half Term Holidays: Sun, Snow or UK, Priced
Ten February 2027 options for two adults and two kids, priced against met-service heat, flight time and the FCDO.

Quick Answer
- 🏖️ Tenerife is the February half term 2027 sun week we'd price first: a published week from £629 per person, two adults sharing, at 22.0°C on 2.2 rain days (as of September 2026, sources: Hays Travel and AEMET).
- 📅 England's February half term 2027 runs Monday 15 to Friday 19 February; Wales breaks a week earlier, Monday 8 to 12 February (as of September 2026, sources: Luton Borough Council and Welsh Government).
- 🎿 One published ski figure covers a whole week of lift passes, hire and ski school for two adults and two kids, and includes no accommodation and no flight.
- 🏕️ The UK caravan week is priced for the whole van, not per person, and the £199 lead-in sits £1 under the threshold that unlocks the £25 low deposit.
- 🚫 Skip this if you've already settled on skiing or you only want an October break: our family ski holidays at half term guide ranks the resorts.
- 🧮 Price your own week in the Family Budget Calculator, sun and snow loaded as the two legs.
- Below: how wide the gap runs between cheapest and dearest resort basket, and what the ski figure leaves out, both under "Cheap Feb Half Term Holidays: The Three-Way Price Comparison".
Most families start February half term by pricing flights, look at what four seats cost in the one week England is off, and decide the whole thing is out of reach. The cheapest published week in this comparison isn't a flight at all: £199 buys seven nights in a caravan across the England half term window, for the whole van rather than per head (as of September 2026, source: Parkdean Resorts). Start with the three-way table below, then run your own two legs through the Family Budget Calculator.
February Half Term Holidays 2027: Hot, Snow or Home for a Family of Four
A family of four here means two adults and two kids, roughly six and ten. That's the basket every figure below is measured against.
Here's what nobody selling a half term holiday will tell you: the three options are not priced in the same currency. Sellers publish a per-person week for sun, the Post Office an on-the-ground basket, the UK parks a box you sleep in. Each gets its own dated column below.
| Option (airport) | Flight from Manchester | Feb daytime °C | Published week (basis stated per row) | On-the-ground basket, published rates | FCDO advice |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Algarve (FAO) | 3 hours | 16.7 | £512 per person, 2 adults sharing, self catering, 30 Sep 2026 offer | £139.65, July 2026 | Portugal: none |
| Lanzarote (ACE) | 4 hours 30 mins | 21.3 | £599 per person, 2 adults sharing, bed and breakfast, 22 Sep 2026 offer | £147.42, July 2026 | Spain: none |
| Tenerife (TFS) | 4 hours 30 mins | 22.0 | £629 per person, 2 adults sharing, bed and breakfast, 25 Nov 2026 offer | £158.31, July 2026 | Spain: none |
| Costa del Sol (AGP) | 3 hours 10 mins | 17.7 | £510 per person, 2 adults sharing, half board, 20 Oct 2026 offer | £163.17, July 2026 | Spain: none |
| Paphos (PFO) | 4 hours 45 mins | 17.6 | £527 per person, 2 adults sharing, bed and breakfast, 20 Nov 2026 offer | £177.18, July 2026 | Cyprus: none |
| Madeira (FNC) | 4 hours | 19.1 | £481 per person, 2 adults sharing, bed and breakfast, 30 Nov 2026 offer | £260.21, July 2026 | Portugal: none |
| Passo Tonale, Italy (MXP) | 2 hours 20 mins | Not applicable | Not published | £1,796.78 on the mountain, Dec 2025 | Italy: none |
| La Thuile, Italy (MXP) | 2 hours 20 mins | Not applicable | Not published | £2,576.14 on the mountain, Dec 2025 | Italy: none |
| Vauxhall caravan, Great Yarmouth | Drive | 7.8 (England average) | £199 whole caravan, cut from £249, half term week | Not published | Not applicable |
| Haven, cheapest park of 39 | Drive | 7.8 (England average) | £167 whole unit, 4 nights, 15 to 19 Feb 2027 | Not published | Not applicable |
| Ten options, three ways of pricing them. The six sun weeks run £481 to £629 per person, but every offer date sits outside half term, because no seller publishes that week without a live search. The ski figures buy a week on the mountain for four, no bed and no flight. The UK figures, £167 and £199, buy the accommodation and nothing else (as of September 2026, sources: Hays Travel, Post Office Travel Money, Parkdean Resorts, Haven, Manchester Airport, Agencia Estatal de Meteorología, Met Office and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office). | |||||

Where's Hot for February Half Term? The Met-Service Heat Grid
"Hot in February" does a lot of work in holiday copy. Here is what the national weather services publish, rain days beside temperature, because 17°C in the rain is not the week you're picturing.
| Destination (station) | Feb mean daily max °C | Feb rain days |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai (Dubai) | 24.6 | 3.7 |
| Cape Verde (Sal) | 24.1 | 1.0 |
| Egypt (Hurghada) | 22.7 | 0.1 |
| Tenerife (Tenerife Sur) | 22.0 | 2.2 |
| Lanzarote (Lanzarote Aeropuerto) | 21.3 | 2.7 |
| Madeira (Funchal) | 19.1 | 11.0 |
| Costa del Sol (Málaga Aeropuerto) | 17.7 | 4.8 |
| Cyprus (Paphos Airport) | 17.6 | 11.3 |
| Algarve (Faro) | 16.7 | 13.0 |
| Malta (Luqa) | 15.5 | 10.9 |
| England (national series) | 7.8 | 11.1 |
| The warmest February air here is Dubai at 24.6°C, the driest by a distance Hurghada at 0.1 rain days. Note what happens to the cheapest basket in Table 1: the Algarve is also the wettest line here, at 13 rain days. England averages 7.8°C, the number every other row is really compared against. These are climatological normals, not forecasts (as of September 2026, sources: Agencia Estatal de Meteorología, Met Office and the national services publishing through the World Meteorological Organization). | ||
Sources: Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) climate values 1981 to 2010; Met Office averages 1991 to 2020 for England; and the World Meteorological Organization, publishing normals from Instituto de Meteorologia and Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, the Meteorological Office Malta, the Cyprus Department of Meteorology, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia e Geofísica and the National Center of Meteorology.
Three things fall out of that grid, which runs on the same met-service normals as our winter sun destinations from the UK chooser, where these week prices sit beside a wider set of destinations. The properly warm rows sit outside Europe: Dubai, Cape Verde and the Egyptian Red Sea. The Canaries are the only European rows clearing 20°C, and they manage it with almost no rain. Mainland Mediterranean February is mild rather than hot, with rain on roughly one day in three in the Algarve, Madeira and Paphos.
We'll be blunt. If your idea of a sun holiday involves a pool the kids will get into, the Canaries are the shortest honest flight to it. Anything cooler than 19°C is a walking week in a coat.
Cheap Feb Half Term Holidays: The Three-Way Price Comparison
Now the gap the Quick Answer promised. Across the 22 resorts in the Post Office Family Holiday Report 2026, the cheapest on-the-ground spend is the Algarve at £139.65 and the dearest Sorrento at £268.23: a spread of £128.58 for the same meals, drinks and everyday holiday items at July 2026 rates (as of September 2026, source: Post Office Travel Money). Your resort choice moves the on-the-ground spend by less than £130.
Snow works on a different scale. The Post Office Ski Report 2026 prices Passo Tonale at £1,796.78 and La Thuile at £2,576.14 for two adults plus two children aged six and eight (as of September 2026, source: Post Office Travel Money, rates collected December 2025). Same publisher, same family, an order of magnitude apart.
Those two numbers are not rivals, and anyone lining them up as a straight fight is selling you something. Here is what the ski figure buys, in the Post Office's own terms: a six-day lift pass, ski and boot hire, five or six half-days of ski school, drinks and lunch on the slopes. No flights. No transfers. No bed.
So the honest reading: sun costs a per-person week plus a spend in the low hundreds; snow costs a per-person week nobody publishes plus a four-figure mountain bill, because it buys a taught activity for four; a UK park week is a bed at £199, with every meal still outside it.
Where Is Hot in February and Cheap to Fly To?
Flight time is the constraint parents plan around: a six-hour outbound with a six-year-old costs you the first day. The two shortest flights in Table 1 are also two of the three coolest destinations: Faro at 3 hours for 16.7°C, Málaga at 3 hours 10 minutes for 17.7°C (as of September 2026, sources: Manchester Airport, Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera and Agencia Estatal de Meteorología). Madeira buys another 2.4°C over Faro for exactly one more hour in the air. The real step up, the Canaries at 21.3°C and 22.0°C, costs 4 hours 30 minutes each way, and Paphos costs 4 hours 45 minutes to land you cooler than Madeira.
The FCDO page to read before you book
Only one country on the heat grid carries an active FCDO warning, and it's the one most likely to tempt you on price and sunshine. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to North Sinai Governorate and within 20km of the Egypt to Libya border except El Salloum, and against all but essential travel to northern South Sinai beyond the St Catherine to Nuweibaa road, "except for the coastal areas along the west and east of the peninsula", plus parts of the Western Desert and the Hala'ib Triangle (as of September 2026, source: Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, updated 4 August 2026). Hurghada and the Red Sea coast sit outside all of them.
That matters for your insurance as much as your nerves. Read the FCDO Egypt page before you pay a deposit, and again a fortnight out. Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Cabo Verde, the UAE and Italy carried no such advice when we checked (as of September 2026, source: Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office). Tenerife is the week we'd price first, on 22.0°C and 2.2 rain days: Check current rates against the flight time in Table 1.
February Half Term Holidays in the UK: What the Caravan Week Actually Costs
The domestic row is priced on a basis that works in a family's favour. Parkdean Resorts publishes seven-night February half term 2027 prices park by park. At our September 2026 check the cheapest to pay was Vauxhall at Great Yarmouth, cut to £199 from £249, with Nodes Point and Camber Sands both at £201; the dearest was Ocean Edge at £249, which carried no reduction at all (as of September 2026, source: Parkdean Resorts). Haven prices the England half-term Monday to Friday from £167 for four nights across its 39 parks (as of September 2026, source: Haven).
These are sale prices and the page moves, so treat the order as today's.
Here's the part that changes the maths: none of those are per-person prices. Parkdean's own accommodation pages say its static caravans sleep up to eight guests depending on grade (as of September 2026, source: Parkdean Resorts). You're buying the van, not four seats in it. Divide £199 by four people and seven nights and you're at roughly £7 a head a night for the bed.
What it doesn't buy is everything else: no meals, no passes, no rainy-Tuesday soft play. If a city break is what you're after, price two nights against the caravan week: Check current rates for the same dates.
Snow at Half Term: When the Ski Week Wins
We don't rank ski resorts here. Our family ski holidays at half term guide owns that job and names its picks plainly: "Les Arcs 1600 and La Plagne 1800 are the best UK Feb half term 2026 family ski resorts". That ranking is dated to the 2026 half term, so read it for the resort call, not the week. It also frames February against Christmas: "Christmas runs 25 to 35 percent more".
What this page adds is the mountain-cost line the sun options have no equivalent for. Passo Tonale, the Post Office's cheapest family resort at £1,796.78, also throws in free child equipment hire, which is a chunk of why it sits where it does (as of September 2026, source: Post Office Travel Money, rates collected December 2025).
So when does snow win? When your kids are old enough to take a full week of lessons and get value from a six-day pass, and the alternative was a mild-and-wet Mediterranean week. For the full trip figure our family ski trip cost breakdown adds travel and lodging. Note the stamp: that basket is December 2025, a season old.
Last-Minute Half Term Breaks and What Is Still Bookable in January
Parkdean's low-deposit terms require the booking at least 16 weeks before travel to qualify for the Direct Debit option, and the £25 deposit only applies at £200 or more (as of September 2026, source: Parkdean Resorts). Sixteen weeks before Monday 15 February 2027 is Monday 26 October 2026. Book in January and you're paying up front, and the £199 lead-in falls under that threshold anyway.
Haven's £30 deposit needs the booking made at least ten weeks in advance, which for that same Monday means 7 December 2026 (as of September 2026, source: Haven).
Availability is the other half. Haven's February 2027 dates were already flagged limited in September 2026, five months out. For when each month's prices firm up, our when to book UK family holidays by month guide sets out the cliff dates.
Half Term Dates 2027 by Nation and the Week Wales Breaks First
Get this wrong and the comparison above is irrelevant: you'll price the wrong week. The four nations don't line up in 2027.
| Nation (authority checked) | February 2027 break | School days off | Published by |
|---|---|---|---|
| England (Luton) | Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027 | 5 | Luton Borough Council |
| England (Bexley, maintained primaries) | Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027 | 5 | London Borough of Bexley |
| England (Nottinghamshire) | Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027 | 5 | Nottinghamshire County Council |
| Wales (all 22 local authorities) | Monday 8 to Friday 12 February 2027 | 5 | Welsh Government |
| Scotland (South Lanarkshire) | Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 February 2027 | 2 | South Lanarkshire Council |
| Northern Ireland (Education Authority) | 11 and 12 February 2027 | 2 | Education Authority Northern Ireland |
| Three English councils checked, three identical weeks. Wales breaks a full week before England. Scotland and Northern Ireland take two days rather than five, and South Lanarkshire's two land inside England's week, with a staff in-service day on Wednesday 17 February. GOV.UK is explicit that term dates vary across the UK and that your own council's website is the source, and Bexley records six primary schools on different half-term dates in October 2026, so check yours before you book (as of September 2026, sources: Luton Borough Council, London Borough of Bexley, Nottinghamshire County Council, Welsh Government, South Lanarkshire Council, Education Authority Northern Ireland and GOV.UK). | |||
So Welsh families get an extra week of choice, and Northern Ireland's two days fall before England's week entirely, which is off-peak. South Lanarkshire's two land on the Monday and Tuesday of England's own week, so a Scottish family there is buying into the peak, not around it.
And the peak costs money. Haven's 2027 page prices the three nights ending as England breaks up at £95, and the four nights inside the England week at £167: roughly £32 a night against £42, about a third more for crossing the line, though that cheaper weekend sits inside the Welsh half term, so it is only off-peak from an English calendar (as of September 2026, source: Haven). That is the clearest published half-term uplift in this comparison. Our UK school holidays guide keeps the 2026 dates and the fine rules. One caution: a page quoting a 2026 date for a trip next spring is a year behind.
Which February Half Term Holiday Is Right for Your Family?
- Pick the UK week if the bed is what you're buying and you'll cook. £199 for seven nights in a caravan, the whole van, is the lowest published week here, and 7.8°C is the weather you're accepting.
- Pick sun abroad if the point is a pool the kids will get into: Tenerife at 22.0°C on 2.2 rain days and 4 hours 30 minutes each way, not a three-hour flight to 16.7°C and 13 rain days.
- Pick snow if your kids will take a full week of lessons. The four-figure mountain basket buys tuition and access, and no sun row includes anything like it.
Our take
For most families of four in England the call for February 2027 is Tenerife or the caravan, with little in between. The Algarve wins on on-the-ground spend and loses on the one thing you're flying for: 16.7°C, rain on 13 days of an average February. Tenerife costs ninety minutes more each way than Faro and hands back 5.3 degrees on a sixth of the rain days.
Snow is a different purchase. If you're paying £1,796.78 or more for a mountain week before a bed or a flight, you want kids who'll be in ski school every morning. If they won't, the money buys a colder version of a warmer holiday.
