Warm Places to Visit in November: 3 Cool Off by December
Fourteen US and Caribbean destinations that clear a 71°F warmth floor, measured on NOAA's own November air and sea readings, with three that turn noticeably cooler the moment December starts.

Quick Answer
- 🌴 The top-scoring warm place to visit in November for a family of four is San Juan, Puerto Rico: an 86.1°F average high and 84.6°F mean sea temperature, both measured across the whole month (as of August 2026, source: NOAA).
- 🌡️ Every destination in our ranking averages a daily high of at least 71°F in November; anything colder didn't clear the bar, National Weather Service and NOAA climate normals (as of August 2026, source: NOAA).
- 🏄 Three of the desert picks below turn noticeably cooler once December starts, and the drop is big enough to change which week you'd actually want to book.
- 🏖️ Not every "warm" pick on this list has anywhere to swim at all, and three that do read under the swim-warm line by enough to keep kids out of it.
- 🧭 Skip this guide if you're planning a December trip instead (our warm places to visit in December guide covers that month) or you've already picked the Caribbean and just need an age-based pick (our Caribbean islands by age guide ranks that).
- 🧮 Run your own dates through the family budget calculator before booking; NOAA measures temperature, not what four plane tickets and a week of hotel rooms cost.
- 👉 Below: which three ranked picks fail their own water test under Where Is Best for a Beach Holiday in November, and which three warm-weather picks cool off fastest once December arrives under What Changes in December.
Somebody's toddler is already asking to swim off a Myrtle Beach hotel balcony in November, going by how mild the afternoon feels on the boardwalk. As of August 2026, NOAA's own Springmaid Pier station put that water at 62.0°F for the whole month, the kind of number a wetsuit crowd tolerates and small kids don't. The ranking below sorts every warm-sounding November pick by what NOAA actually measured, not by what the air feels like on the sand; start with how the score is built, then run your dates through the family budget calculator.
Where Is the Warmest Place to Go in November?
San Juan, Puerto Rico tops our ranking on both numbers that matter for a family trip: an 86.1°F average daily high and a 74.9°F average low across November, and, for the beach afternoon, a mean sea temperature of 84.6°F measured hourly through the whole month (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Charlotte Amalie sits close behind at 86.8°F air and 84.5°F water, close enough that either answers "warmest" honestly.
Myrtle Beach turns up constantly on "warm in November" lists, and its own numbers say otherwise: a 66.4°F November air average and NOAA-measured water at 62.0°F, both under the 71°F floor this guide applies to every pick (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Warm-sounding and warm are not the same claim.
How the November Swim Score Works: Air, Water, Crowds, Cost, Kid-Fit
We built a floor before we built a ranking. A destination's November average daily high has to reach 71°F for it to appear on our table at all; that line sits in a real gap in the NOAA data, between San Antonio's 71.7°F and San Diego's 70.7°F, rather than on a round number picked for convenience. Applying it consistently costs four destinations their spot: San Diego, Charleston SC, Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach itself, all covered further down under Where Is Best for a Beach Holiday in November.
A family of four here means two adults and two kids, ages six and ten, every time we quote a fare block. Everything that clears the floor is then scored on five factors, each worth 0 to 5 points, for a maximum of 25: Air, Water, Crowds, Cost and Kid-Fit. All five come off published data, with the anchors printed below, and it's the same five-factor idea our family vacation cost index uses on the pricing side.
What each factor is worth
| Factor | What it measures | 5 points | 3 points | 1 point | Where the number comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air | The 1991-2020 November normal high | 85.0°F or hotter | 77.0 to 79.9°F | 71.0 to 73.9°F | NOAA NCEI |
| Water | Mean sea temperature across November 2025 | 82.0°F or warmer | 75.0 to 77.9°F | A coastal station under 72.0°F | NOAA CO-OPS |
| Crowds | The nearest airport's 2025 US domestic passenger rank | Outside the top 60 | Ranks 25 to 39 | Ranks 6 to 14 | US Bureau of Transportation Statistics |
| Cost | Average round-trip domestic fare from that city, Q1 2026 | Under $325 | $375 to $424 | $465 or more | US Bureau of Transportation Statistics |
| Kid-Fit | November rain, plus whether there is water a kid can swim in | Under 1.00 in of rain and swim-warm water | 1.00 to 2.49 in with swim-warm water, a dry month with no coast, or under 2.50 in on a coast that reads below swim-warm | 2.50 in or more and nothing swimmable | NOAA NCEI and NOAA CO-OPS |
| Five factors, 0 to 5 points each, 25 at the top. A zero on Water means no NOAA station, not cold water. Scores of 4 and 2 fall between the printed anchors | |||||
Crowds and Cost both come off one Bureau of Transportation Statistics release, which ranks US airports by 2025 domestic passengers and prints an average fare beside each (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). That fare is an origin-city average across every route, not a quote for your dates.
Rain enters once, inside Kid-Fit. NOAA's November precipitation normal decides whether a warm afternoon happens outside or in a hotel lobby, and it splits the desert picks from the Caribbean ones harder than air does. What we left out is anything we'd have to guess at: hotel rates, park queues, hurricane odds. A factor you can't look up isn't a factor, it's a preference.
The Ranking: 14 Warm November Destinations, Air and Water Measured
Fourteen destinations clear the 71°F floor, and the score sorts them differently than air alone does. Three win on three different kinds of trip, so here they are first.
1San Juan, Puerto Rico
21 out of 25. Best overall, and the cheapest seat in the top fiveTop marks on Air at 86.1°F and Water at 84.6°F, both NOAA-measured across the whole month (as of August 2026, source: NOAA), and the cheapest average fare in the top five, $320.09 a seat (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). What holds it to 21 is Kid-Fit: 7.37 inches of November rain, the wettest month on our table.
2South Padre Island, Texas
20 out of 25. Best mainland pick, no passport, quietest arrival in the top fiveIt comes within a point of San Juan from the opposite direction. 80.3°F air, 78.2°F water at NOAA's Port Isabel station, and 1.76 inches of November rain against San Juan's 7.37 (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Harlingen, the nearest airport, ranked 132nd in the country for domestic passengers last year and averages $340.60 a seat (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics).
3Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands
19 out of 25. Warmest air on the page, at the price that comes with itThe hottest November air we measured anywhere, 86.8°F, with 84.5°F water a whisker off San Juan's (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Its airport ranked 144th for domestic passengers, so you land into calm. The six points it drops go to a $433.30 seat (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics) and 5.30 inches of November rain (source: NOAA).

Air normals are NOAA NCEI 1991-2020 climate normals; sea temperatures are NOAA CO-OPS hourly readings averaged across November 2025; fares are the Q1 2026 average domestic itinerary fare by origin city from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics. All fetched August 2026. Where a city has more than one CO-OPS station, the in-bay, in-city station is used (Corpus Christi Bay at the USS Lexington, not Port Aransas). Key West's airport ranked 171st for domestic passengers, so it scores Crowds as outside the top 60; South Padre Island's station USW00012919 is Brownsville. No week-for-four total is printed because no fact-owner published a 2026 figure for any pick; nothing here is estimated.
The fare column above is a national average, not your fare. To see what a room at the top-scoring pick actually costs on your dates, check current San Juan rates on Expedia.
Where Is Best for a Beach Holiday in November? (Three of the Ranked Picks Fail the Water Test)
Air temperature alone lies to you about swimming. Fort Myers averages 81.3°F in the air, but NOAA's own Fort Myers station reads a 73.2°F mean sea temperature for November, under the 75°F line we use for "swim-warm" (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Tampa tells the same story from its Clearwater Beach water station: 78.9°F air against 69.7°F water, and Corpus Christi makes three, 76.1°F air against 73.4°F in the bay at NOAA's USS Lexington station (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). All three are warm places. None is a warm ocean in November, not by NOAA's own water reading.
Five of the Ranked Picks Have No Water Reading at All
Here's the finding worth more than the water-test count: five of the fourteen warmest places on our own table, Palm Springs, Orlando, Phoenix, Tucson and San Antonio, have no CO-OPS water reading at all because they are desert or inland. They don't fail a swim test. They were never in one. A parent who searches "warm places to visit in november" and pictures a beach is picturing the wrong trip for over a third of this list, and nobody tells them that up front.
Four Destinations That Miss Our Own Warmth Bar
These four commonly suggested picks never reach the ranked table because their November air average sits under our 71°F floor, not because of anything to do with water:
| Destination | Nov avg high | Nov mean sea °F | Why it's excluded |
|---|---|---|---|
| San Diego, CA | 70.7°F | 64.8°F (CO-OPS 9410230, La Jolla) | Air misses the floor by three tenths of a degree; water is well under swim-warm too |
| Charleston, SC | 69.4°F | 62.9°F (CO-OPS 8665530, Charleston) | Air misses the floor by 1.6°F; the water is colder still |
| Las Vegas, NV | 67.1°F | No CO-OPS station, desert | Air misses the floor by nearly 4°F |
| Myrtle Beach, SC | 66.4°F | 62.0°F (CO-OPS 8661070, Springmaid Pier) | Misses the floor and has the coldest measured water on this page |
As of August 2026, source: NOAA.
We'll be blunt: if a beach afternoon in the water is the goal, eight of our fourteen ranked picks can't deliver it and four more familiar names don't clear the warmth bar at all. San Juan, Charlotte Amalie, Honolulu, Miami, Key West and South Padre Island are the only picks here where both numbers back up the word "warm."
Where Is Warm and Cheap in November in the USA?
Phoenix is the pick most lists call cheap, and no Phoenix lodging or destination source published a 2026 week-for-four total as of August 2026, so this guide prices the part a national statistics agency does publish. On fares, Orlando and San Juan average the two cheapest seats on this page, $304.41 and $320.09, while Corpus Christi, which sounds like the budget Gulf answer, averages $509.26 and Phoenix sits at $398.66 (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). Cheap to fly to and cheap to spend a week in are not the same list; our warm December guide carries lodging-inclusive December ranges for Phoenix and Puerto Rico.
A Family of Four, One Week in November, All In
Table 2 prices the one part of a November week a national statistics agency publishes: four seats at each destination's own average fare. Lodging, food and car have no fact-owner-published 2026 figure for any pick, so they aren't priced here.
| Destination | 4 fares (Q1 2026 BTS average × 4) |
|---|---|
| San Juan, PR | $1,280.36 |
| South Padre Island, TX | $1,362.40 |
| Charlotte Amalie, USVI | $1,733.20 |
| Honolulu, HI | $1,561.96 |
| Key West, FL | $1,707.08 |
| Fort Myers, FL | $1,560.64 |
| Miami, FL | $1,622.32 |
| Tampa, FL | $1,466.24 |
| Palm Springs, CA | $1,851.40 |
| Tucson, AZ | $1,818.96 |
| Orlando, FL | $1,217.64 |
| Corpus Christi, TX | $2,037.04 |
| Phoenix, AZ | $1,594.64 |
| San Antonio, TX | $1,825.72 |
| Cheapest four-seat fare block on this table: Orlando, FL at $1,217.64. Priciest: Corpus Christi, TX at $2,037.04. That's an $819.40 gap before a single hotel night is booked. No 2026 lodging, food or car figure was published by a fact-owner for any pick here as of August 2026, so this table prices only what BTS publishes | |
Fares are four times the Q1 2026 "Average Domestic Airline Itinerary Fares By Origin City" figure from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (as of August 2026): an average across every route out of that city, not a quote for your dates. South Padre Island is priced from Harlingen, its nearest airport.
One stance the table won't give you: if you're flying anyway, the fare is the smallest lever here. $819.40 separates the cheapest four-seat block from the priciest, and one week's lodging swing at a single destination can beat that on its own. Our affordable winter family vacations guide prices the same trade-off for December.
The lodging half of that basket is the part no national dataset publishes, which is why Table 2 stops at the fare; price it on your own dates before you commit to a destination on fares alone.
What Caribbean Island Is Hot in November?
San Juan and Charlotte Amalie are effectively tied at the top: 86.1°F and 86.8°F air, 84.6°F and 84.5°F water respectively, both measured by NOAA through November (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Either answers "hot" honestly. Neither island's tourism board published a 2026 week-for-four figure as of August 2026, so the fare is what separates them on cost: $320.09 against $433.30 a seat (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics).
Is one actually better than the other? Not on temperature. The gap between them is far too small to pick a trip on, so pick on flight availability and lodging style rather than a number this close.
You can see current San Juan snorkel and day-tour options on Viator to compare against whatever your hotel desk quotes once you're there.
Our Caribbean islands by age guide ranks these same islands by kids' age band if you're choosing for December instead of November, since the swim window and the surge pricing both shift once the calendar turns.
Where to Go in November on a Budget, and Where Is Hot in November but Cheap?
Tucson against Phoenix is the real desert budget question, and the score splits them: Tucson takes 12 out of 25, Phoenix 9. Most of that gap is elbow room. Tucson's airport ranked 74th in the country for domestic passengers last year against Phoenix's 11th, and Phoenix is one of only two picks on this page inside the national top fifteen (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). Phoenix wins part of it back on the seat, $398.66 against Tucson's $454.74 (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). Neither city published a 2026 week-for-four total, so treat Tucson as the quieter option, not a proven cheaper one.
Whichever desert city you pick, the week you book moves more money than the state does, and that is the next section.
Thanksgiving Week vs Early November: The Line That Splits the Month
Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26, near the late end of the fourth-Thursday window that runs from November 22 to November 28, which pushes the early-November shoulder to more than three full weeks before the surge starts.
Thanksgiving-week fares run well above early-November pricing on the same routes, and this guide prices the non-Thanksgiving weeks only. If your dates are flexible at all, that's still the single biggest lever on this page, bigger than the difference between any two destinations on Table 1. Our Thanksgiving family vacation ideas guide ranks Thanksgiving-specific trips directly if that's the week you're locked into; this guide prices the rest of November instead.
What Changes in December (and Which Picks Move)
Three of the fourteen ranked picks cool off fast enough that the calendar actually changes the trip: Phoenix drops 10.3°F to a 66.2°F December average, Tucson drops 9.6°F to 65.5°F, and Palm Springs drops 9.5°F to 69.2°F (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Every other pick on our table loses less than 9 degrees; San Antonio, the next steepest, drops 7.0°F.
Why the desert picks? Dry desert air loses heat fast once the sun angle drops, while the ocean holds island warmth; San Juan and Charlotte Amalie move under 2°F each.
If a desert pick is on your shortlist, book it for November. The same trip in December runs colder, and the calendar is the only thing that changed.
Picking Your November Week
Everything on Table 1 works in November, but not the same way; the right pick depends on what you want out of the trip.
Which one's right for your family?
You want guaranteed swim-warm water and don't mind a flight
San Juan and Charlotte Amalie clear 84°F on both air and water, ahead of every other destination on this list, and they score 21 and 19. Our Caribbean islands by age guide narrows the pick further once kids' ages are in play.
You want the cheapest seats and can skip the beach
Orlando's $304.41 average seat is the cheapest on the page and Phoenix's $398.66 beats every other desert pick (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). Book the desert for November, though: Phoenix is the pick that cools off fastest. Our affordable winter family vacations guide carries the lodging side priced for December.
You want swim-warm water without a passport
South Padre Island at 78.2°F, Miami at 77.4°F and Key West at 77.0°F all clear the 75°F swim-warm line on NOAA's own water readings, and South Padre outscores the other two (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Our best winter family vacation destinations guide covers how they compare once winter proper sets in.
Your dates are anchored to Thanksgiving week
Every price on this page assumes a non-Thanksgiving week. If you're locked into November 26, our Thanksgiving family vacation ideas guide ranks trips built around that surge specifically, and our all-inclusive resorts in the USA guide covers a booking style that can absorb some of that surge pricing.
Something worth saying plainly: nothing on this page changes because of an affiliate relationship. The Expedia and Viator links here point to San Juan, the destination our own bullet 1 names, because that's the rule we hold ourselves to rather than steering links toward whichever partner pays more.
How this was built: every air normal, rainfall normal and sea temperature came from NOAA's NCEI and CO-OPS services, and every fare and passenger rank from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics, all fetched in August 2026. Every factor is replicable from published data. No week-for-four total appears anywhere on this page because no fact-owner published one for 2026; we print the fare and leave the rest blank rather than estimate. Full method at our research methodology page.
Our take
San Juan is the pick we'd point most families to first, on 21 out of 25 and the cheapest average seat of any beach-warm pick, though it buys that score with the wettest November on our table (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). South Padre Island sits one point behind on a quarter of the rain and no passport. Phoenix is the desert seat to price if the beach isn't the point, even sitting 13th, and Orlando is the cheapest seat outright. And if a listicle already told you Myrtle Beach, its own November numbers, 66.4°F air and 62.0°F water, say otherwise.
