Where Is the Warmest Place to Go in November?

San Juan, Puerto Rico tops our ranking on both numbers that matter for a family trip: an 86.1°F average daily high and a 74.9°F average low across November, and, for the beach afternoon, a mean sea temperature of 84.6°F measured hourly through the whole month (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Charlotte Amalie sits close behind at 86.8°F air and 84.5°F water, close enough that either answers "warmest" honestly.

Myrtle Beach turns up constantly on "warm in November" lists, and its own numbers say otherwise: a 66.4°F November air average and NOAA-measured water at 62.0°F, both under the 71°F floor this guide applies to every pick (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Warm-sounding and warm are not the same claim.

How the November Swim Score Works: Air, Water, Crowds, Cost, Kid-Fit

We built a floor before we built a ranking. A destination's November average daily high has to reach 71°F for it to appear on our table at all; that line sits in a real gap in the NOAA data, between San Antonio's 71.7°F and San Diego's 70.7°F, rather than on a round number picked for convenience. Applying it consistently costs four destinations their spot: San Diego, Charleston SC, Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach itself, all covered further down under Where Is Best for a Beach Holiday in November.

A family of four here means two adults and two kids, ages six and ten, every time we quote a fare block. Everything that clears the floor is then scored on five factors, each worth 0 to 5 points, for a maximum of 25: Air, Water, Crowds, Cost and Kid-Fit. What each factor is worth

Crowds and Cost both come off one Bureau of Transportation Statistics release, which ranks US airports by 2025 domestic passengers and prints an average fare beside each (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). That fare is an origin-city average across every route, not a quote for your dates.

Rain enters once, inside Kid-Fit. NOAA's November precipitation normal decides whether a warm afternoon happens outside or in a hotel lobby, and it splits the desert picks from the Caribbean ones harder than air does. What we left out is anything we'd have to guess at: hotel rates, park queues, hurricane odds. A factor you can't look up isn't a factor, it's a preference.

The Ranking: 14 Warm November Destinations, Air and Water Measured

Fourteen destinations clear the 71°F floor, and the score sorts them differently than air alone does. Three win on three different kinds of trip, so here they are first.

Air normals are NOAA NCEI 1991-2020 climate normals; sea temperatures are NOAA CO-OPS hourly readings averaged across November 2025; fares are the Q1 2026 average domestic itinerary fare by origin city from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics. All fetched August 2026. Where a city has more than one CO-OPS station, the in-bay, in-city station is used (Corpus Christi Bay at the USS Lexington, not Port Aransas). Where Is Best for a Beach Holiday in November? (Three of the Ranked Picks Fail the Water Test)

Air temperature alone lies to you about swimming. Fort Myers averages 81.3°F in the air, but NOAA's own Fort Myers station reads a 73.2°F mean sea temperature for November, under the 75°F line we use for "swim-warm" (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Tampa tells the same story from its Clearwater Beach water station: 78.9°F air against 69.7°F water, and Corpus Christi makes three, 76.1°F air against 73.4°F in the bay at NOAA's USS Lexington station (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). All three are warm places. None is a warm ocean in November, not by NOAA's own water reading.

Five of the Ranked Picks Have No Water Reading at All

Here's the finding worth more than the water-test count: five of the fourteen warmest places on our own table, Palm Springs, Orlando, Phoenix, Tucson and San Antonio, have no CO-OPS water reading at all because they are desert or inland. They don't fail a swim test. They were never in one. A parent who searches "warm places to visit in november" and pictures a beach is picturing the wrong trip for over a third of this list, and nobody tells them that up front.

Four Destinations That Miss Our Own Warmth Bar

These four commonly suggested picks never reach the ranked table because their November air average sits under our 71°F floor, not because of anything to do with water:

We'll be blunt: if a beach afternoon in the water is the goal, eight of our fourteen ranked picks can't deliver it and four more familiar names don't clear the warmth bar at all. San Juan, Charlotte Amalie, Honolulu, Miami, Key West and South Padre Island are the only picks here where both numbers back up the word "warm."

Where Is Warm and Cheap in November in the USA?

Phoenix is the pick most lists call cheap, and no Phoenix lodging or destination source published a 2026 week-for-four total as of August 2026, so this guide prices the part a national statistics agency does publish. On fares, Orlando and San Juan average the two cheapest seats on this page, $304.41 and $320.09, while Corpus Christi, which sounds like the budget Gulf answer, averages $509.26 and Phoenix sits at $398.66 (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). A Family of Four, One Week in November, All In

Table 2 prices the one part of a November week a national statistics agency publishes: four seats at each destination's own average fare. Lodging, food and car have no fact-owner-published 2026 figure for any pick, so they aren't priced here.

Fares are four times the Q1 2026 "Average Domestic Airline Itinerary Fares By Origin City" figure from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (as of August 2026): an average across every route out of that city, not a quote for your dates. South Padre Island is priced from Harlingen, its nearest airport.

One stance the table won't give you: if you're flying anyway, the fare is the smallest lever here. $819.40 separates the cheapest four-seat block from the priciest, and one week's lodging swing at a single destination can beat that on its own. What Caribbean Island Is Hot in November?

San Juan and Charlotte Amalie are effectively tied at the top: 86.1°F and 86.8°F air, 84.6°F and 84.5°F water respectively, both measured by NOAA through November (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Either answers "hot" honestly. Neither island's tourism board published a 2026 week-for-four figure as of August 2026, so the fare is what separates them on cost: $320.09 against $433.30 a seat (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics).

Is one actually better than the other? Not on temperature. The gap between them is far too small to pick a trip on, so pick on flight availability and lodging style rather than a number this close.

Where to Go in November on a Budget, and Where Is Hot in November but Cheap?

Tucson against Phoenix is the real desert budget question, and the score splits them: Tucson takes 12 out of 25, Phoenix 9. Most of that gap is elbow room. Tucson's airport ranked 74th in the country for domestic passengers last year against Phoenix's 11th, and Phoenix is one of only two picks on this page inside the national top fifteen (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). Phoenix wins part of it back on the seat, $398.66 against Tucson's $454.74 (as of August 2026, source: US Bureau of Transportation Statistics). Neither city published a 2026 week-for-four total, so treat Tucson as the quieter option, not a proven cheaper one.

Thanksgiving Week vs Early November: The Line That Splits the Month

Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26, near the late end of the fourth-Thursday window that runs from November 22 to November 28, which pushes the early-November shoulder to more than three full weeks before the surge starts.

What Changes in December (and Which Picks Move)

Three of the fourteen ranked picks cool off fast enough that the calendar actually changes the trip: Phoenix drops 10.3°F to a 66.2°F December average, Tucson drops 9.6°F to 65.5°F, and Palm Springs drops 9.5°F to 69.2°F (as of August 2026, source: NOAA). Every other pick on our table loses less than 9 degrees; San Antonio, the next steepest, drops 7.0°F.

Why the desert picks? Dry desert air loses heat fast once the sun angle drops, while the ocean holds island warmth; San Juan and Charlotte Amalie move under 2°F each.
