Editorial Standards

How the Endless Travel Plans research desk operates — independence, accuracy, and accountability.

Standards version: 1.0 Last reviewed: April 2026

Editorial Independence

Endless Travel Plans is editorially independent from advertisers and affiliate partners. No hotel, attraction, destination, or booking platform has paid us to recommend it. The research desk decides what to cover, how to cover it, and what conclusions to publish — based on evidence, not on commercial relationships.

Affiliate links exist on this site (see disclosure below), but the recommendation came first and the affiliate link followed — not the other way around. If a recommendation ever feels off, it should — and you should question it.

Fact-Checking Process

Every article on this site is produced under a documented research protocol. Specifically:

  • Three or more search queries on the topic before drafting begins, drawing on official tourism boards, government statistics, current pricing pages, and recent parent discussions on travel forums
  • Two or more URL verifications confirming that every external source cited still resolves and contains the claimed data
  • A tiered source hierarchy with government and official sources at Tier 1, industry/tourism at Tier 2, major aggregators at Tier 3, and user-generated content (Reddit, TripAdvisor) at Tier 4 — used only for sentiment quotes, never for factual price or visitor-count claims
  • Date-stamped pricing on every cost figure
  • Verbatim forum quotes (no paraphrase masquerading as quote), capped at fair-use length, with attribution and link to source

If a stat can't be sourced, we don't make one up. We either omit the claim or hedge honestly. For the full research protocol, see our methodology page.

Conflict of Interest Policy

If an editor on the research desk has a personal stake in a destination, attraction, or product — owns property there, has a relative who runs the business, has a paid relationship outside this site — that editor recuses from coverage of that subject. Conflicts are disclosed internally and tracked.

The research desk does not accept gifts, comped trips, or sponsored experiences from destinations, hotels, attractions, or tour operators. Any review or recommendation on this site reflects independent research and reasoning, not insider access.

Affiliate Disclosure

Endless Travel Plans contains affiliate links. When you book a hotel through Booking.com via a link on this site, or buy travel gear through certain retailers, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These commissions help keep our planning tools — the Budget Calculator, Visual Itinerary Builder, Smart Packing List, and Democratic Vote Tool — free for everyone.

Affiliate disclosure appears on every page that contains affiliate links, not buried in a global footer.

We don't accept paid placements. The destinations, activities, and brands we recommend are recommended because we believe they're the right call for the families we're writing for — not because of any commercial relationship.

Corrections Policy

If you spot something inaccurate, outdated, or missing context on Endless Travel Plans, the corrections path is the contact form on our About page. We typically respond within 48 hours and update articles within a week of confirmed corrections.

Material corrections that change a recommendation are noted at the top of the affected article for at least 90 days, with the date and nature of the correction. We don't silently rewrite articles to hide errors. Mistakes are visible and tracked.

Articles are reviewed on a 6-month cycle as part of the standard freshness process. The "Last verified" date in each article footer reflects the most recent review.

Privacy

Reader data submitted to our planning tools (destinations, dates, traveler counts, etc.) is used to deliver the tool's output and to generate aggregated, anonymized statistics that power our research articles. Individual user data is never shared with third parties. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

When we publish aggregate insights derived from tool usage, we apply k-anonymity floors (no insight is published unless backed by a sample of 100+ records, and no insight combines more than two filtering dimensions) to prevent re-identification.
